online Course Offerings
Playwriting
For all levels of experience, this is a pre-requisite for all other classes offered and serves as a crash course in formatting, character creation, monologue, dialogue, scenes, structure, revision strategies, problem solving, and submission strategies.
Short Plays
The focus of this course is on short plays that range in length from 1 to 10 minutes and draws heavily on Gary Garrison's book A More Perfect Ten. Topics covered include submission and publication opportunities for short form plays, as well as No Shame Theatre.
Styles Bootcamp
This is an intensive and fast paced exploration of styles, genres, and methods.
Each week students will write an entirely new and complete first draft of a play in only 72 hours. This draft will incorporate targeted prompts built around a different style and genre (such as realism, expressionism, solo show, etc.). Before the next class meeting, each student will read the plays written their fellow students, and be prepared to discuss.
The focus of discussion is on what you have learned about writing, not what you have written.
Upon completion of the course, each student will have six first drafts ready for further revision and development.
