Workshops
If your school or organization would like to hire me to conduct a workshop, I'm available with decades of experience in the classroom as well conducting workshops and panels at theatre festivals and conferences such as AWP, ATHE, SETC and KCACTF. I can structure the time and format to suit your needs and spaces. Generally, you pay a flat fee for the workshop ($500 plus travel, accommodations, and conference registration if applicable) with participants having access as part of their conference fee. Below are three examples of workshops I am frequently asked to provide, but over the years I've done many, many more on a wide variety of topics. Let me know what you need or ask me to suggest something based on who is attending your event or what your students are currently studying.

Instant Playwriting
A rapid fire summary of playwriting basics from idea to ready to submit your finished play. Participants will leave with a firm grasp of how to write a play, properly format it, and research submission opportunities. Flexible time, can be 30 minutes to three hours

Three Panel Cartoons as Three Act Structure
This workshop demonstrates how to successfully structure a play's beginning, middle, and end using the example of three panel cartoons. Participants will leave the workshop with a completed first draft of a ten-minute play that illustrates a lesson by following a character who is transformed through crisis. Flexible time, can be 30 minutes to three hours
Writer as Performer
Using memoir as a starting point, this workshop focuses on creating a monologue where the writer is intended to be the performer. We will consider what makes a good audition piece in terms of both material and audience engagement and use those elements as guides in creating our own original monologues. Part writing workshop, part acting class, participants will write a monologue, rehearse and then perform it for the group. Each writer/performer will also give and receive feedback on the work presented. Flexible time, can be 30 minutes to three hours
